History of The Museum
The Arizona Railway Museum was founded and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1983 by a group of dedicated hobbyists. Committed to preserving the rich railroad heritage, they have worked tirelessly over the past almost forty years to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore and learn about our nation’s railroad history.
Exhibits
The main building is a re-creation of the original Chandler depot and showcases both artifacts from different time periods in our nation’s rail history. There are also numerous restored train cars ranging from vintage steam engines and passenger cars to movie set trains and coaches. Additionally, various rail company china, glassware and other artifacts are on display within this impressive building.
One item listed in the National Register of Historic Places is Southern Pacific Railroad Locomotive No. SP 2562 with its accompanying tender No. 8365. Additionally, there is also a Railroad Steam Wrecking Crane and Tool Car from 1917 on display here at the museum which was used for maintenance along the railway line throughout several states including California, New Mexico, Texas and more.
